Walled Lake Central boys’ soccer honors head coach, raises money for cancer

The Walled Lake Central boys’ soccer team honored head coach Joel Sharpe and many other courageous cancer survivors in its charity game on September 15.

Coach Sharpe was diagnosed with tongue cancer at the end of 2024. He completed his chemotherapy and radiation therapy in March and just before the start of the boys’ soccer season this fall, Sharpe received the news that he was tumor free.

Prior to the Walled Lake Central’s game against in-district rival Walled Lake Western, the Vikings celebrated Coach Sharpe with a bell ringing ceremony to mark the official completion of his journey with cancer. The program also raised over $5,200 for Game on Cancer, which provides patients at Henry Ford Health with access to the latest advancements and treatment options for their battle with cancer.
