A pair of Walled Lake United wrestlers set to hit the mat at Ford Field

Walled Lake United Wrestling’s James Moore and Dillon Welling are headed to Ford Field this weekend with their sights set on MHSAA Division 1 individual state titles.

Moore, a senior at Walled Lake Northern, is headed back to the state championships for the second-straight year. Moore, who finished seventh overall a year ago, heads to Ford Field with a 46-1 record this season in the 190 lbs. class. Moore has already secured an Oakland County, district and regional title. He’s now looking to close out his high school career with his first state title. Moore will open up the first round against Liam McMillen from Southgate Anderson High School.

Welling, a junior at Walled Lake Central, is making his first trip to the individual state championships. He is 36-5 this season with runner-up finishes at the Oakland County meet, districts and regionals. Welling will face Stoney Creek’s Isaac Fandakly in the first round in the 138 lbs. class.

The MHSAA Division 1 State Championships begin on Friday, 10 a.m., at Ford Field with the consolation matches and state finals on Saturday.
